Curling – Playing the Olympic Sport in Orange County

Watching the 2010 Winter Olympics definitely got me interested in the niche sport of Curling. I got hooked on it and wanted to try it out myself. Only problem is that I don’t have the brooms, shoes, or rocks, not to mention a curling sheet.
But guess what! Many other people got the curling bug just like I did and started calling ice rinks about the sport and now we can play it in Orange County!
For the newbies to curling, which I would expect it to be most of us, Anaheim …

Angels 2009 AL West Champions!

Last night the Angels clinched their 3rd consecutive American League West Championship in an 11-0 win over the Texas Rangers!! This is the Angels’ 5th division title win in 6 years!
The 2009 regular season of Angels baseball was far from easy. The Angels were struck with injuries, an inconsistent pitching line up, frustrating hitting slumps and the death of a teammate. Yet they were able to surpass this and become the AL West Champs. It is amazing to see what the team has gone through this season and still be …

Get Your Pistons (or Rotors) Ready!

The feeling of air going through your hair, the rush of a turbo, and the force of taking a turn – ahh…the sensations that driving a car can give you. Don’t you just love ‘em?
Cars are such a big part of our lives, especially here in Orange County, that I’m really happy that we are a center for anything regarding the automobile – from being HQ to some car companies like Kia and Mazda, and to holding some great weekly events like Cars and Coffee.
Well, we have two more events …

Renovating an OC landmark

One of Orange County’s landmarks is undergoing a much needed renovation! Originally built as a scoreboard for the Angel’s stadium in 1964 the “Big A” that now stands in the parking lot of the stadium is being renovated! Even if you are not an Angel’s or baseball fan, I’m sure you’ve seen the 230-foot tall, 210 ton “Big A” as you drive down the 57 freeway.
Some history of the “Big A”
The “Big A” was built  in 1964 as a scoreboard for the stadium. It quickly became the icon of the …

Jon Wilhite Night

The fatal crash of former Angels pitcher, Nick Adenheart and his friends Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson was not easy for me to take in. As an Angels fan and Cal State Fullerton Student, the crash struck too close to home.  It was difficult for me to see the images on TV and to drive by the crash site or Angels stadium. I was there on the night of Nick’s last game and it all seemed so surreal.
There was only one survivor of this unfortunate event, Jon Wilhite – a Cal …

A Rush of Trivia at Knott’s Berry Farm

This video of a screaming kid on a roller coaster has been getting around on the interwebs and some TV and in case you didn’t notice,  it takes place on one of Orange County’s best roller coasters – the Silver Bullet at Knott’s Berry Farm.
Story behind this video though is that Cartoon Network has a show called Brain Rush, where contestants try to answer trivia questions while riding one of the many roller coasters at Knott’s. You can try to be on the show too I guess…though I don’t know …

LETS GO TITANS!!

Do you remember my first post about Titan Baseball a few months ago? (read here) I criticized that CSUF did not have enough spirit for Titan Baseball despite the history of the team, and their talent!  Weeeell, I take some of that back!
On Saturday the Vitamin OC crew, and I attended the Titan Baseball Rally in Downtown Fullerton. I was excited to see the spirit of the alumni, parents, community members, and some (very few) students out there.  Chanting ” Lets go Titans!!” we rallied up on all four corners …

#GoLakers! Bleeding Purple and Gold

There is no other sports fan experience that can match that of a Lakers fan.  We need no gimmicks, our legacy speaks for itself.  It’s not just our 14 franchise championships that makes us who we are, but the decades of dynasties, intense rivalries, and NBA legends that make bleeding purple and gold almost intrinsic for So Cal families. I was a Laker fan before I could even say the word “Lakers”.
Being a fan was one of many defining characteristics of my childhood. Way back to the days of elementary school when …
