Green Band Benefit Concert

The Japan Green Honor Band returns again this year to be performing in the Rose Parade as well as to host a benefit concert in conjunction with the John F. Kennedy High School Jazz Band.
This year’s Green Band is composed of students from Tachibana High School in Kyoto, and the benefit concert will be raising funds for the Green Band students whose homes and families have been affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. The concert will be held at the AUHSD Performing Art Center at Kennedy High on …

What’s going on at the Fox Theatre?

If you have driven by the Fox Theater on Harbor Boulevard in Fullerton, you will notice that it is presently closed and under construction. Though it was closed and abandoned in 1987, the Fox Theatre has been an official landmark of the City of Fullerton since 1990 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in October 2006.
The move for restoration began in 2005 when the city of Fullerton began to raise funds by showing movies in the rear parking lot by projecting films onto the outer wall …

Knott’s Berry Farm—Sky Cabin Replaced?

Last evening, while driving past Knott’s for the first time in a few weeks, a new ride caught my attention. For a moment, I thought the Sky Cabin has been replaced since it looks surprisingly like the Sky Cabin, but newer, taller, and more colorful. In fact, looking at Knott’s Berry Farm from a distance, this new ride stands out the most with its vibrant colors and height, taller than even Supreme Scream. Honestly, the Sky Cabin and even Supreme Scream look shabby compared to it. At night, this new …

Goodbye, Borders

Times have changed. The days when we would go to the bookstore to purchase something are coming to an end for many reasons- the convenience of online retailers, the rise of e-books, the economy, management, and ourselves the customers. And so, goodbye, Borders.
As a business, the purpose of Borders is to sell books and their related goods. However, with its cozy atmosphere, more customers (and I am guilty of this as well) came to Borders as a place to browse and relax rather than to shop. Inevitably, Borders filed for …

Curling – Playing the Olympic Sport in Orange County

Watching the 2010 Winter Olympics definitely got me interested in the niche sport of Curling. I got hooked on it and wanted to try it out myself. Only problem is that I don’t have the brooms, shoes, or rocks, not to mention a curling sheet.
But guess what! Many other people got the curling bug just like I did and started calling ice rinks about the sport and now we can play it in Orange County!
For the newbies to curling, which I would expect it to be most of us, Anaheim …

Marmite? Jaffa Cakes? Head to the British Grocer!

After exiting the 91-motorway,  you can find yourself in a quaint little courtyard at the Villa del Sol center where a most unusual shop can be found.  Specializing in goods from the land of the Beatles,  Harry Potter, and James Bond, the British Grocer in Downtown Fullerton stocks it’s shelves full of British sweets and necessities.
Upon entering the shop, you’re greeted by shelves of sweets, tea sets, and the owner of the store, an old British lady whose voice made me smile and think of the memories of when I …
