Social Media Club OC- If you get it, Share it!

Finally! Social Media Club is coming to Orange County and we couldn’t be more excited!

By now, you probably noticed that the Vitamin OC staff is full of social media geeks. We spend A LOT of time online, and A LOT of time using and learning about social media.  So when we found out that Social Media Club is going to launch in OC, we couldn’t wait to tell you about it!

As soon as we found out that Coworking Fullerton in Downtown Fullerton will be hosting SMC OC, we quickly contacted owner, Marieke Hensel, to sit down for an interview! First of all let me say that the Vitamin OC staff are fans of Coworking Workplace in DTF. We met Marieke a few months ago when we attended their free friday Coworking Jelly.

Jackie, Michelle, & Jorge at Coworking Spaces

Marieke  is the Production Manager and Co-Founder of SMC OC. Her vision for the club is to serve as a platform for social media professionals to share their ideas and skills. Social Media is all about sharing information and learning! (hence the tag line, “if you get, it share it”)

SMC OC will have monthly events where best practices will be shared, speakers will discuss key topics, and members will have a chance to network with social media experts and enthusiasts. Everyone will have the opportunity to learn and teach each other about Social Media. As Marieke said, “Social Media people are very social and we like to work together,” and that is exactly what SMC will bring - an environment for social media collaboration!

We agree that SMC would be very beneficial in Orange County because simply as she asked,  ”What happened to social media here? Everything happens there (in LA) nothing ever happens here!”  The LA social media scene is booming, but here in the OC it is very minimal.

The Vitamin OC staff can definitely vouch for that statement! We have been to a couple LA tech and social media events, including Microsoft Biz Spark Events, Girls in Tech and others, but they are all in LA!  Simply, the culture of LA is different from OC. We had a really hard time meeting anyone at these events because they were not interested in talking to you if you didn’t have a recognizable name!

There are definitely many people that base their business from social media in Orange County and Vitamin OC has been working on meeting many of them. That is why we are soooooo glad that we can have our own Social Media Club here in OC! We want to attend events and finally feel accepted as Orange County social media people and not as trying to blend in with the LA scene.

The launch of Social Media Club will be tomorrow, Wednesday May 13th, at Coworking Fullerton in Downtown Fullerton.  You MUST RSVP to this event on Facebook or Meetup! We highly encourage you to come and see what all the talk is about. Also if you are interested, currently Social Media Club OC is looking for people that want to be part of thier board. They are looking for Promotional and Partnership Managers.

The Vitamin OC staff will be there so let us know if you will be attending so that we can meet up!
