Avenue Q at OCPAC

It seems that everything I write about includes something that is at least a little bit taboo, or something that involves breaking laws. This review is no different. I mean, who can resist watching Lucy the Slut perform on stage?

If you haven’t heard of Avenue Q before, it is a Broadway musical that features puppets on stage, and teaches the audience about the real life struggles and situations that we face fresh out of college.

I know what you’re thinking… Puppets? Real life “struggles”? It sounds more like Sesame Street! But trust me, this is a show you do NOT want to miss. I mean, read the headline! “Warning: Full Puppet Nudity” — you know that’s what caught your attention to read this post, and lucky for us, it is showing in our very own Orange County Performing Arts Center.

I’m a nerd, and a gay nerd at that, so I’ve been waiting for Avenue Q to show at a local venue for some time now. When I found out that it was playing at OCPAC, I wasted no time in ordering tickets and inviting all of my friends and family. We got orchestra-level seats at half price (How? Oh, wouldn’t you like to know). Finally, the day came, and we finally had the chance to watch it yesterday, at the matinee show, and it was well worth the wait.

From puppets singing about how awesome racism is, to monsters dancing around the idea that the Internet was created for the sole purpose of porn, you will probably never see another musical like this in your lifetime. This show is not only hilarious, but it almost made me shed a gay tear for the lonely, gay Republican — almost.

If you’re looking for entertainment, there is no better show out there right now in Orange County than Avenue Q. But buy your tickets soon, because they won’t be around for long. The last day to watch it is on April 12!

Woohoo! This was an awesome show. After discovering this a couple years ago and just loving the music, it was so great to see this show live!
