Follow up: So Cal Action Sports Network Meetup
On the afternoon of March 26th, the Vitamin OC staff and CSUF Phi Beta Lambda went to the Oakley Headquarters in Lake Forest to volunteer at the Chris Brogan meet up-hosted by the So Cal Action Sports Network.
As we approached the building , we were in awe of the unique architecture of the Oakley building. We couldn’t decide whether it looked more like a spaceship or a CIA secret hideout that you only see in the movies. The inside of the building was even more intriguing. We never imagined to find brass colored walls and electric looking chairs in the waiting area!
Although we were there to volunteer, Bryan Elliot of the So Cal Action Sports Network gave us the chance to network with the professionals that were at the event. We can’t thank him enough for giving us the opportunity to meet so many people from different areas of the Action Sports industry! The highlight of my night was getting to speak with Chris Brogan himself. I truly admire Chris and getting to talk to him for even just a few minutes was truly awesome!
We also got to meet in person one of our Vitamin OC followers and readers @BigHeadAsian – Justin Moore-Brown . He was there with Mobo Media- They were official sponsors of this event. Jason Moore-Brown of Mobo Media interviewed us!
The event itself consisted of a panel of speakers which included Gretchen Sheckler, mom & manager of pro athlete Ryan Sheckler, Patrick Mcilvain, Vice President of Sports Marketing for Oakley, Inc. , and Tim Young, CEO of Socialcast. They all shared advice and personal experiences about building relationships and other marketing strategies. After the panel , Chris Brogan spoke about social media and the audience was allowed to ask questions.
As students and social media enthusiasts - the Vitamin OC staff was thrilled to be part of this event! We learned a lot from the panel and from Chris Brogan! Once again, we thank Bryan Elliot and the So Cal Action Sports Network for giving us the opportunity to attend. If you are interested in finding out more about this network you can visit their site www.socalactionsportsnetwork.com and we invite you to join their facebook group to find out about their upcoming events and ideas! For students, you can get in on the Action too by joining the So Cal Action Sports University! Just become a Fan on Facebook and you’re in!
