Hi! My name is Alvin Moy.  I am a 4th year senior in California State University, Fullerton, and will be walking (thank God! Finally!) at the end of this Spring 2009 semester in May, majoring in Child & Adolescent Development. Phew what a long title for a major right? Shall we abbreviate; I am a CHAD major. Doesn’t that sound interesting and catchy? What major are you? I am a CHAD major, yeah! I love my major! It is fascinating learning the growth and development of how every individual matures and become the person they are today.

I am currently interning as a preschool teacher here in OC at Placentia Headstart with a wonderful program at our university, Jumpstart. I get to sing and play while analyzing, fostering, and providing numerous opportunities for children to grow physically, cognitively, and socially. Gosh, I just made my job sound so easy. It is very rewarding to work and watch children grow. Jumpstart is a national program associated with an organization called AmeriCorps. Our mission in Jumpstart is to work towards helping every child in America to succeed and be prepared for school by building every child’s literacy, language, social, and initiative skills. Jumpstart is a great way to make a difference in this world by helping and reaching out to your community through education. For more information about Jumpstart and what I do for Jumpstart please feel free to contact me via email: alvin[at]vitaminOC[dot]com.

Okay enough about my work, my other passions and interests are music, food, fashion, dance and art. I’m going to go down the list:

MUSIC:
I love music. I would feel so empty without music in my life. Music has so much power in the way it influences moods and emotions. Speaking of music, one of my hobbies is playing the piano and occasionally the violin. I really enjoy improvising and creating music. I have yet to finish composing a song powerful enough to have a tremendous impact upon listeners. A song so strong that it allows the listener to relate and connect one with the music. I want my music to touch your hearts. Enough to inspire you to have an epiphany and a sense of feeling of a life changing moment occurring. A project I have yet to finish. I have written some pieces, but they are not that long. Anyhow, playing the piano is fun, relaxing, and therapeutic!

FOOD:
Food itself can be exciting and very much comforting and healing, but it is so much more fun and adventurous concocting something in the kitchen. I love experimenting and trying to reinvent all sorts of dishes and desserts that my friends and I enjoy. It is always fun to cook and bake together. What would you like me to cook/bake for you, any requests?

FASHION:
Hmm what can I say about fashion? From clothing design, sewing, hair, makeup, shoes, … everything about the fashion industry appeals to me. I love the beauty of it all and the artistic fierceness that it exerts. I love how fashion is always changing and continually finding new innovative ways to create different styles and trends. Like I always say: “You can never have too many clothes.” Fashion and its intricate designs, brands, and trends have always caught my eye. I have always wanted to become a fashion designer. Ever since high school, I wanted to have my own international fashion line. I wanted to attend FIDM once I graduated from high school, but instead, decided to attend Cal State University, Fullerton as a business major.  But after spending 2 years taking lower division business classes I realized business was not for me.

I always wanted to design clothing and pursue a career in the fashion industry, even if I was designing or making a dress for my friends for fun and practice. Just recently last year my interest in the makeup and cosmetology industry, which still is within the realm of fashion, began to grow. Now I am in the process of building my portfolio hoping to get into the makeup industry, especially with MAC, Lancome, Cover Girl …If you are interested in participating in helping me build my portfolio and willing to be my canvas please do not hesitate to contact me.  I am still learning and sharpening my skills to become a better and professional makeup artist.

DANCE:
Dance is also another recent acquired passion of mine. I just recently picked it up in the summer 2 years ago when I first started taking dance classes at Mt. San Antonio College. It was such an experience, thrilling, fun, and relaxing summer learning modern, jazz, & ballet. All three-dance classes were a good exercise, but I have to give jazz the most credit for getting me to sweat to the point that I was dripping. Yes, ‘ew’ I know, but it was totally an awesome work out. It was so much fun! I really miss dancing. I plan to continue dance and give lyrical and hip hop a spin.

ART:
Okay, now it is art’s turn. I love being able to creatively express my emotions, thoughts, and ideas through art. Yes, I am one of those artsy fartsy kinds of guys. There’s no limit to how much or how little you want to be in your creativity. You can be as creative, innovative, and expressive, as you want. You are your own artist and most critical critic.

Okay that’s a wrap. I hope you got a glimpse of who I am and what I love. I look forward to sharing with you all about the greatness of OC.   Go Titans!
