[Staff Bio] Hi. I’m Patrick.

Hi there. My name’s Patrick Tomas.
“The OC”
I’ve been living in Orange County for my whole life, more specifically Buena Park, near the OC/LA border. I’ve come to love Orange County and it’s unique culture, people, and weather. Even though I’ve lived in Orange County for eighteen years, I don’t know the area as well as I would like to. I still haven’t visited many places, mostly in central and southern OC, but I know that will change while writing for vitaminOC.
The Usual
I’m a first year Student at Cal State Fullerton pursuing a degree Business Administration with a concentration in Entrepreneurship and part of Future Business Leaders of America, Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL). So far I love it at CSUF. The student population may be mostly commuters, but that doesn’t stop us from staying around and having a good time at or around school.
I enjoy cooking and baking, especially if it’s for other people. It’s fun when I don’t burn things or mess up, but then again that doesn’t happen too often. I also enjoy eating some good food. Since Orange County has such a unique culture and location, good food isn’t hard to find. I absolutely love eating burgers, breakfast, carne asada fries, sushi, and the list goes on and on. I also have a special place in my stomach for the super oily yet oh so delicious filipino food.
I still remember playing Star Fox, Street Fighter, and Super Mario RPG on my Super Nintendo when I was a little boy. Ever since then I’ve still been a loyal Nintendo fan. While still speaking about Nintendo – I’ll say that I still love Pokemon. I don’t watch the show as much as I did when I was a kid, but I’m still an avid player of the hand held games from the original red and blue to diamond and pearl. (I’ve always picked the water starter!)
The Unusual (I guess…?)
There is usually a list of the “usual” things people would say when introducing themselves to someone. Then there’s the list of “unusual” things that you only find out after you spend sometime with said person. These are some of mine:
- I’m left handed but I do pretty much everything else but eat and write with my right hand.
- I go by the philosophy that a messy desk/room is better than a clean one. I even wrote a speech about it.
- I start cracking my knuckles anytime someone talks about cracking body parts. I can crack my fingers anytime too!
- I have an unusual interest in Helvetica. Every time I see it on a sign, I point it out and say that it’s in Helvetica.
- I know a lot of trivia. Just the weirdest and randomest stuff. I think it’s from reading too much wikipedia, watching history and discovery channel, and actually paying attention in school.
Favorites
My favorite TV shows are Monk, Psyche, and House. My other favorite TV show is none other than the British car show, Top Gear. You just gotta love British humour and crazy car challenges. Speaking of cars, I drive a true red Mazdaspeed3. Zoom-Zoom!
I absolutely LOVE breaking things and taking things apart. It’s super fun seeing how thing’s work and getting some hands on experience. I usually try putting things back together but it doesn’t always work out in my favor. I love reading instructables.com and the MAKE blog! I just wish I had all the time, materials, and knowledge to do everything I want.
My favorite color now is red. I’m pretty sure of that. During my life it went from blue to blue and gray to yellow to yellow and brown to red. Whew…
I also like coca cola, but if there’s raspberry iced tea around I’ll take that instead. And if I remember (which is rare) I’ll order or make an Arnold Palmer (Iced Tea and Lemonade).
And lastly, I love the number 37 . What else can I say about it other than it’s super lucky and prime?
vitaminOC
I’m going to be writing about techy and geeky (and business-y) stuff for vitaminOC. I’m also the administrator for the site. I’ll do by best to keep you up to date in an ever-changing environment as well as try to bring vitaminOC to you every way I can. Any suggestions or tips on what you would want would be great!
Finally, I’m know I’m going to enjoy traveling and learning things as well as writing with the vitaminOC crew. I hope you’ll enjoy what I experience as well. It would definitely be fun if you could come along too! I’m always up for making new friends, trying new things, or just hanging around! Say hi or ask some questions to me on twitter @patricktomas or email me at patrick@vitaminoc.com
